Description
Ok! These are the Summer Time Evening Sewing Sessions at The Upholstery Bureau! We all want to improve our sewing skills to help us with our re-upholstery projects and I have some skills that I am happy to pass on. Everyone brings their own project, which you’ll be guided through step by step, and as well, you’ll learn about fillings, fabrics, measuring, types of piping cords and zips, as appropriate, as well as good sewing machine practices to make your life happier!
As a trial, and to accommodate students’ different sewing abilities, you can book however many sessions you might need, whether it’s 1- 2 – 3 or 4 sessions.  Generally, if you are a beginner and would like to make a throw cushion with a zipper, 1-2 sessions is enough. If you would like to make a throw cushion with zipper and piping, this can usually be achieved in 2 sessions.
If you have sewing experience and are looking to make a box cushion cover, piped and with a zipper, you’ll need to book 4 sessions. If you find you have spare time in your session, there’s always more to practice!  We will not be doing curtains or clothing.
Do email saramac@upholsterybureau.com if you need advice and to confirm that your project AND your FABRIC are suitable.  Please note, that everyone will have different levels of skill and will measure, cut and sew at their own pace and therefore it is not possible to guarantee that you will finish your chosen project in the exact time.
If you haven’t sewn for awhile, you’ll be helped to get back up and running through a few easy sewing exercises.
**You should note that even with sewing experience, a student usually takes 10-12 hours to complete their first full size, piped and zipped box cushion.***
**If you wish to bring your own machine, that may be possible too. But please check with the tutor to make sure. You might also need to bring a zipper foot and/or a piping foot for your sewing machine.
What to bring? You need to bring your project (a throw cushion filling, foam insert for a window seat or a sofa cushion etc) plus 1.5 metres of fabric (to be confirmed) and a spool of coordinating Guttermans polyester thread. To avoid disappointment, you must confirm your project and your fabric (you must ensure you are using a suitable fabric for the machines in the workshop) before the course. Email for advice and guidance.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided and there is one 30-40 minute break for lunch.
All sessions are 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Fee per session is £55 (includes piping cord and zipper)
