Description
Ok! For the summer, here is a two day, day time, sewing course at The Upholstery Bureau for your enjoyment. We all want to improve our sewing skills to help us with our reupholstery projects and I have some sewing experience that I am very happy to pass on. As well as working through your project, we’ll discuss fabrics, piping cords, fillings, measuring up, zips and share lots of tips for good sewing practice to make your life happier!
The plan is, you bring a project that you would like to learn how to do, such as a sofa cushion cover, a window seat cushion cover or a couple of throw cushions. (We will not be doing curtains or clothing, however, practising sewing will give you experience and confidence to try sewing more things.) You will also need to bring in your fabric, approx. 1.5 metres depending on your project, and a spool of Guttermans coordinating polyester thread.
If you feel your sewing machine skills are a bit rusty, I can help you to get back up and running through easy sewing exercises.
I can be flexible – to a degree – with what individuals work on and how they wish to work, so please email me so you can let me know your project and the fabric you hope to use. Alternatively, if you don’t have a specific project in mind, you can use your time to learn how to put in a zipper, how to make and join piping for a cushion, sew top stitch and practise making a top stitched cushion.
Everyone will have different levels of ability and will measure, cut and sew at their own space. There will be lots of 1:1 instruction as well as group learning when appropriate.
**Please note that making a full size, piped and zipped box cushion can take a student with some sewing experience 10-12 hours so I cannot guarantee that you will finish your project over this 2 day course. If you require more time, you can also enrol for one or two evening sessions.
Day time Sewing Course runs over two Tuesdays:
Tuesday 23rd July – 9:30am til 3:30pm
Tuesday 30th July – 9:30am til 3:30pm
If you wish to bring your own machine, that is possible too. But please check with the tutor to make sure.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided and there is one 30-40 minute break for lunch.
