This is a day course from 10am til 4:30pm held on Saturdays. The next one is to be confirmed. It’s a busy day as we work at a bit of a pace but it’s also enjoyable and you derive quite a feeling of achievement at the end! There’s only 4 in the class, so you get lots of instruction and guidance and opportunities to ask questions!
Imagine being able to make a box cushion cover for an armchair, a window or bench seat or to re-make some sofa cushion covers. Working through the process beginning to end, with a tutor guiding you and giving you all the tips, the course is designed to give you confidence to practise and make covers at home.
All materials are included. You should have some sewing experience as this is not a ‘learn to sew’ class. If you are not sure, just email saramac@upholsterybureau.com and maybe you just need to practice a bit before you come!
Everyone works on a similar sized sample and by the end of the course you will have completed a box cover – zipped and piped – to take home, along with a full handout and some practice pieces you’ll have completed.
Course includes: foam measuring 35cm x 25cm x 8cm, zippers, piping cords and sewing threads as well as a handout outlining the order of work, plus helpful online resources to refer to in the future. If time allows the tutor also shows other box cushion styles that can be quick to achieve.
If you wish, you can bring to the class 1m of a plain weave fabric of your choice, and half a metre of a cotton to make piping. Otherwise, I can provide these.
The are 4 places, 4 sewing machines. If you wish to bring your own machine, you can do so, but you’ll need a single/double piping foot for your machine.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided and there is one 30-40 minute break for lunch.
