Description
This is a 10 week course on Monday evenings 6:30pm til 9pm.
All levels are welcome and everyone brings their own project to work on. If you are a new comer, you should bring a project such as a dining chair, loose seats, footstool, or small nursing chair as an appropriate project. The course is designed to give you lots of tips and techniques to enhance your understanding and appreciation of this huge and amazing craft! You’ll be exposed to a range of projects with some more experienced students working on more advanced pieces and this can give beginners a little insight into what may lay ahead. All the tools are provided.
As you progress, the tutor will guide you with choosing subsequent projects. To avoid disappointment, everyone sends a photo of their proposed project to me before the course starts. Please email saramac@upholsterybureau.com
There is lots of 1:1 instruction and demonstration, some handouts, as well as some group learning for different topics. This class also has our great teaching assistant Andrea – so even more help and guidance!
Do check out the FAQs page for lots of answers about all kinds of things.
**Please note, fees include storage for all beginner size projects. However, armchairs (including some nursing chairs, as well as tub chairs, ottomans, large footstools) will be charged £65 per term and extra large chairs (depth and width are both over 73cm) £120 per term. This fee is paid at your first session, by card.** If you are unsure if you will be charged a storage fee, please ask the tutor.
The classes include:
- Instruction for complete or partial ripping out and reupholstery
- Or carrying out a recover (only removing and then replacing the top fabric)
- Traditional & modern upholstery techniques applied to domestic furniture, tools and materials and how we handle them
